ECOMET activities

Managing key relationships

ECOMET takes a central position in managing relationships with the key actors in the meteorological community of Europe.

The ECOMET Chief Executive maintains relations with the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), the Grouping of European Meteorological Services (EUMETNET), the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) and the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT).

The Chief Executive is also responsible for representing the interests of the Members with key departments of the European Commission.

ECOMET also liaises with the private sector meteorological community in Europe, primarily, but not exclusively, through PRIMET.

Maintenance of the ECOMET catalogue

The ECOMET Secretariat works in close cooperation with the ECOMET Members to maintain the ECOMET catalogue. Members are responsible for keeping the information on the catalogue and prices up to date; while the ECOMET Secretariat is responsible for the maintenance of the tables in the catalogue and for the communication of changes to third parties and other Members.

Advice on data policy

The ECOMET Secretariat, in cooperation with the ECOMET working group, provides advice on advice on data policy and licensing to its Members.

ECOMET also provides advice to eig EUMETNET on data policy for its Programmes.

Expansion of the ECOMET Membership

The primary expansion activity is to harmonise the membership of the two EIGs ECOMET and EUMETNET. Further expansion will be carried out jointly.
