The ECOMET General Assembly at its 49th session welcomed the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute as 28th Member of ECOMET.

Per 1 January 2020, ECOMET now has 28 Members. They are the national meteorological services of the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and United Kingdom.

Public and private weather services in Austria

In Episode 6: Public and private weather services in Austria, hosts Alan Thorpe and David Rogers invite Michael Staudinger into the studio. Michael is the Director of the Central Institute of Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG), which is Austria’s national meteorological & hydrological service. He is also the Permanent Representative of Austria to the World Meteorological Organisation, and President of the WMO Regional Association VI (Europe).

Online Forum – Legislative Frameworks that Enable Public-Private Engagement

This upcoming Online Forum explores the national legal frameworks that define and establish the roles and responsibilities of each stakeholder in the global weather enterprise in their respective territories. These frameworks stress the importance of all elements of the value chain in the weather, water and climate nexus. 

Activities of the ECOMET Secretariat in relation to the private sector

Following the approved ECOMET strategy, the Chief Executive will focus even more in maintaining good relations with the existing and emerging private sector.

Several activities will be or have been undertaken in the past or coming months:

  • EMS session on Cloud computing and Data distribution, organised in cooperation with PRIMET (7 September 2017)
  • Attendance of the Chief Executive at the World Meteorological Expo, Amsterdam (10-12 October 2017)
  • Attendance of the Chief Executive at the AMS Annual Meeting in Austin (TX) (7-11 January 2018)
