Categories of users (as used in price lists)
End user (E-U): a Third Party which uses an item in the ECOMET Catalogue for its own commercial, industrial, or personal purposes and does not pass this item on to any further Third Party neither uses it to generate a Type B or Type C value added service.
Broadcaster/publisher (BC): a Third Party which uses an item in the ECOMET Catalogue in order to provide a service by means of broadcast or publishing in any form.
Service provider (SP): a Third Party which acquires an item in the ECOMET Catalogue in order to supply Type B or Type C value added services under specific licence conditions to a further Third Party that is clearly identified and known to the first Third Party.
Further specifications of Service Provider
You will notice that in the price lists, 3 columns specify prices for Service Providers.
Service Provider (1) is the price to be paid for the data or products, excluding a redistribution licence type B VAS.
Service Provider (2) is the price to be paid for the data or products, including redistribution licence, excl. internet broadcast license type B VAS.
Service Provider (3) is the additional fee to be paid in case of internet redistribution of type B VAS. This fee comes on top of the other fee to be paid as broadcaster or service provider.
Definition of a Value Added Service
Value Added Services (VAS): all meteorological services specifically conceived to meet the needs of Third Parties and made available under specific conditions.
Type B Value Added Service (Type B VAS): VAS derived from Type A data and/or Type A products by non-meteorological processing beyond pure delivery such as colouring, formatting, geometric transformation, etc. or which display original Type A data and/or Type A products, and from which the original Type A data and/or Type A products can be retrieved easily or their use can be identified unambiguously.
Type C Value Added Service (Type C VAS): VAS generated through processing, where the original Type A data and/or Type A products or Type B VAS cannot be retrieved easily and their use cannot be identified unambiguously.
Classification of Data and Products
Type A Data: All meteorological, oceanographic, hydrological and environmental observations obtained by National Meteorological Services (NMS)
Type A Products: All meteorological information that results from the transformation or processing of data sets in the form of pictures, charts, text or data files, is considered to require meteorological know-how to be interpreted, and has been prepared specifically to meet the operational requirements of a NMS.
